Synopsis
A humorous story of friendship and love, full of death, with serious topics like gay marriage, world peace and weight loss. The story begins on September 11, 2031 after another horrific bombing. It's a story about Don Sanchez who experienced a miraculous healing after a skateboard crash and massive brain injury. Now, Don's brain is so incredible he read the Bible one summer and understood the whole thing. He rejects the Christian label, because he doesn't want to align with the bullies of the world. Don's housemate and best friend is Fonu Ali, who started life as a strict Muslim. When Fonu was twelve, he witnessed his father get trampled to death during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Now, Fonu studies all religions. He especially studies what everyone is arguing about. Don's other housemate and best friend is an atheist named Dave, who has some brain damage from an accident that occurred ten years earlier. Dave needs more brain surgery, but he's getting better. Abe Seabrooke was formerly the fattest fundamentalist preacher in San Jose. Now, he's lost over one hundred pounds. He was extremely homophobic until he fell into a coma after extreme fasting. That's when he had his homophobic awakening. He awakened to the fact, he truly was a homophobe. Larry Cooley is a fifty-six-year old, mixed race shaven bald American. Larry bumped into Don while float meditating in the ocean. Larry seems mysteriously enlightened and joyful, and at the same time a little bit crazy. Donna Davis is a beautiful feisty girl with a big dark septum ring in here nose. She escaped from a psycho ward and had been living on the streets until Larry rescued her. Zola Jackson is a founding member of the weight loss cult started by Don and Fonu to raise money for Dave's brain surgeries. She's lost over forty pounds and looks great now. Dr. Gerry Long is Don, Fonu and Dave's Chinese African American flamboyant gay psychiatrist neighbor, who comes over for a beer with the boys. The religious right can be repulsive. Therefore, our culture is throwing out everything sacred. The argument is between the people at the top. Therefore, my argument is with the people at the top, not with the people. The people don’t want war - trust me - the people want peace. The people at the top of governments, institutions, religions - you name it – all insist their rule book is the perfect one. And with the perfect interpretation in their heads, these people at the top teach others. They are the reason gay people get bullied. They are also the reason Muslim, Christian, Jewish and other religious people get bullied. These people at the top can’t admit the possibility they might be 1% wrong about anything. That’s why we can’t have World Peace.It all started with the Jews – or was it God? The story written in the stars is what everyone is arguing about, specifically the end of the story. The problem is - people think they know it all - but they haven’t even studied what everyone’s arguing about.And that’s why we can’t have World Peace.
