About this Item
Albany, Knickerbocker 1871. Octavo publisher's brown cloth; 138pp. A nice copy. First edition of this intriguing investigation into one of the "fly-specks of certain customs" of the sort that should not tarnish history but be brought into the light. Bundling is the custom of members of the opposite sex, strangers or not, sharing the same bed while fully clothed - a "custom of convenience". Stiles covers its origin (and continuation among the lower classes) in Britain as much as America where it was blamed for the rapid population growth of New England. Seller Inventory # 8411
