The City of Destruction: Christian, the protagonist, lives in the City of Destruction. After reading a book (the Bible), he realizes the city will be destroyed due to sin. He seeks salvation and is burdened by the weight of his sins. Evangelist's Guidance: Evangelist directs Christian towards the Wicket Gate, a narrow gate that starts his journey to the Celestial City, representing Heaven. The Slough of Despond: Christian falls into a swamp representing the struggles and doubts of the Christian life but is rescued by Help. Mr. Worldly Wiseman's Advice: A man named Mr. Worldly Wiseman advises Christian to go to the village of Morality and seek Legality, but Evangelist redirects him back to the Wicket Gate. The Wicket Gate: Christian arrives at the gate and is welcomed by Goodwill. He then heads to the Interpreter's House, where he learns valuable lessons through various visions. The Cross: Christian arrives at the cross, and his burden of sin falls off. He receives new clothes, a scroll, and a mark on his forehead.
