So I decided to start writing them myself. Stories that challenge our 'reality agreements' of how love and romance should work. For most of her adult life, Violet Gregory has been a writer of one sort or another, starting with teenage poetry and editing her school newspaper. On leaving school, VG caused consternation among her teachers and family by announcing she was not going to be a writer at all, but intended to study fashion design. She quickly abandoned that idea when she realized she'd have to wear make-up and high heels to succeed in the fashion industry and went to University instead. This turned out to be an inspired decision, as she could wear her Dad's old pajama top and monster slippers to class if she wanted to (and sometimes did). She failed almost every paper in her first year, but was influential in a number of groups around campus, including the women writers' group Venus Envy and KAOS (Killing as An Organised Sport). Eventually she obtained a BA in French and English, one of the highlights of which was completing a year long Creative Writing paper with well known New Zealand author Albert Wendt. Since then, VG has worked mostly as a business writer and journalist, and has from time to time contributed chapters and editorial input to a variety of non-fiction books. VG began writing her first romance novel in the late 1990s. She sent off four chapters to a number of publishers and received an offer to publish the completed book almost immediately. However, she was disheartened by the publisher's request for the plot to be changed to meet their 'formula', and after many years of distraction, finally commenced a new manuscript in 2012.
