Reviews
While this book is aimed at the beginner, it contains much information that will interest the intermediate paddler as well. The basic canoeing strokes are covered in detail, as is the basic equipment required. The author, a national wilderness canoe trip leader for the Sierra Club, also discusses maneuvering in heavy wind, wilderness travel, travel with children, emergency procedures, cooking, and first aid. Despite its title, much of the material in this book seems beyond the scope of a beginner's book but should whet the novice's appetite for further reading. This book will fill the needs of libraries seeking a single book to cover the topic and will complement large subject collections as well.
