A facsimile edition of the first edition, in very nice clean condition. The book was originally published in 1906 by Hutchinson & Co. and is very scarce. This copy comes with a signed publicity leaflet from the Publisher (see scans). ***Near fine in grey paper over red cloth-covered boards, with gilt titles on the spine. The boards show some wear and rubbing commensurate with age and handling over the years, but are relatively clean with just a few small marks. No bumps or tears (please see scans). No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Page block edges clean. No foxing. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions or other obvious marks. No creases or tears. Printed on nice quality paper. ***338 pages, 180mm x 125mm. ***'This facsimile edition of "Captain John Lister" was produced for Epworth Mechanics' Institute Library in memory of Mr. Frank Lindley, who was the Institute's President for 33 years up to his death in 1978, and who always took a great interest in John A. Hamilton's second novel about the Isle of Axholme. Acknowledgment is made of the generous loan of an original copy of "Captain John Lister", now very rare, by Mr. Alex Ross, of Belton, as the working copy which has facilitated this reproduction.' (Quote taken from the publisher's preface) ***'The Isle of Axholme is an area of Lincolnshire, England, adjoining South Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is located between Scunthorpe and Gainsborough, both of which are in the traditional West Riding of Lindsey, and Doncaster, in South Yorkshire.' (Wiki) ***A first facsimile printing of the true first edition, in very nice condition. The book has been very well preserved, and doesn't show much signs of use. An extremely rare book in first edition - this facsimile edition will be of interest to collectors of books pertaining to Lincolnshire local history and in particular the Isle of Axholme. A very uncommon title. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
