Text Translated from the German Das Schloss along with the Homage by Thomas Mann by Willa and Edwin Muir; the additional sections have been translated by Eithne Wilkins and Ernst Kaiser. The author's last novel, it was originally published in German in 1926. Kafka died before he could finish the work and the novel was posthumously published against his wishes, hence the problems establishing a definitive text. Dark and surreal, the novel is about alienation in a world increasingly dominated by bureaucracy and totalitarianism.
