Cisco Systems' CCIE certification (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is the hottest thing going in networking today. Trouble is, the exam you have to pass and the two-day lab you have to successfully complete to earn it, will be the toughest such challenges you've ever faced. Over 70 % fail on their first try. This study guide stacks the odds in your favor.

This is the first independently-produced CCIE preparation reference to include real-life practice lab scenarios. There are thirty scenarios in all, designed to prepare you for the pressure-packed build-break-restore lab portion of the certification process. It also contains 600 carefully prepared questions that are designed to measure your networking knowledge in the very same way the questions on the actual test will challenge you. But unlike the real test, this reference gives you the answers, including detailed, step-by-step explanations whenever appropriate. And each question is coded by topic and certification tract, so you can use this reference to prepare for Cisco's recently introduced CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, and CCDP certifications as well.

In addition to containing all of the questions, explanations, and lab scenarios found in the hard-copy, the accompanying CD-ROM includes software that lets you build your own test by topic, certification track, or both. And when you've completed your personalized test, your score is instantly calculated for you.

Louis D. Rossi started his career as a computer programmer for U. S. Trust on Wall Street in the late 60s. He then spent eleven years teaching math and science at several different high schools in upstate New York. In 1981 he became a trainer for Tandy Radio Shack in Jacksonville, Florida. He fell in love with the work and began earning key instructor certifications. In 1993 he obtained his Novell CNE certification and his Certified Novell Instructor certification, followed by his MCNE in 1994. In 1996 he received his CCSI certification. Since then, he has combined his two passions, teaching and networking, to provide Novell and Cisco training to thousands of network professionals around the country. He is currently writing a series of booklets that will help users reduce the amount of time it takes to construct specific network configurations. Lou is based in Tallahassee, Florida, and can be reached at lrossisr@ar-inc.com.

Lou's oldest son, Louis R. Rossi, graduated with a degree in Physics from Florida State University in 1992 and began his career in network engineering four months later. Young Lou has obtained many certifications including Novell CNE-3, Novell CNE-4, Certified Novell Instructor (CNI), Master CNE (MCNE), Certified Cisco Systems Instructor (CCSI), and in October of 1997, he obtained his Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification on his first attempt. Like his Dad, Lou has conducted hundreds of Cisco router, Catalyst Switch, and Novell Operating System classes throughout the United States. He has successfully designed, implemented, and troubleshot networks for a diverse list of clients, including Citicorp International, Chase Manhattan, and Watson Wyatt International. In September of 1995, he formed Andrews Rossi Incorporated, a network engineering, consulting, and training firm, based in St. Augustine, Florida. He can be reached at lrossi@ar-inc.com.
