El teatro de Tirso de Molina es un enclave en la historia del teatro �ureo situado entre el inicio sobresaliente de Lope y la culminaci�n triunfante de Calder�n, sobre todo en lo que a la comedia de enredo se refiere. Entre "La dama boba" y "La dama duende" se sit�a el eslab�n de un nutrido pu�ado de comedias tirsistas en las que las mujeres llevan la iniciativa, dirigen la trama siempre en su beneficio y en la lenta pero imparable imposici�n de su libre arbitrio como quien no quiere la cosa. Tirso dio a sus personajes, sobre todo a las mujeres, el coraje y la fuerza de la autodeterminaci�n, dentro de los l�mites que su tiempo marcaba. Tirso juega con el "enga�o a los ojos", con que casi nada sea lo que aparenta a primera vista, con las urdimbres del enredo y la eficacia humor�stica y c�mica. "La celosa de s� misma" es una de las mejores comedias de intriga escritas por Tirso de Molina, empezando por la paradoja del t�tulo. Sobre el muy antiguo motor teatral de los celos, Tirso logra crear uno de los personajes femeninos mejor acu�ado por su pluma. Rizando el rizo, el tercero o tercera que exige toda trama de celos se convierte en un desdoblamiento especular de s� mismo, demostrando as� que un personaje con capacidad imaginativa y herencia de "curioso impertinente" puede desdoblarse en su mismo rival por el amor de un gal�n que resulta ser, simult�neamente y por la misma persona, deseado y rechazado.

About the Author

Tirso de Molina (Madrid, 1583-Almaz�n, Soria, 1648). Espa�a. Se dice que era hijo bastardo del duque de Osuna, pero otros lo niegan. Se sabe poco de su vida hasta su ingreso como novicio en la Orden mercedaria, en 1600, y su profesi�n al a�o siguiente en Guadalajara. Parece que hab�a escrito comedias y por entonces viaj� por Galicia y Portugal. En 1614 sufri� su primer destierro de la corte por sus s�tiras contra la nobleza. Dos a�os m�s tarde fue enviado a la Hispaniola (actual Rep�blica Dominicana) y regres� en 1618. Su vocaci�n art�stica y su actitud contraria a los cen�culos culteranos no facilit� sus relaciones con las autoridades. En 1625, el Concejo de Castilla lo amonest� por escribir comedias y le prohibi� volver a hacerlo bajo amenaza de excomuni�n. Desde entonces s�lo escribi� tres nuevas piezas y consagr� el resto de su vida a las tareas de la orden.
