About the Author

Primo Levi est n� � Turin en 1919. En 1942, apr�s des �tudes de chimie, il s'installe � Milan. Il est arr�t� comme r�sistant le 13 d�cembre 1943, puis d�port� � Auschwitz, o� il restera jusqu'en janvier 1945, date de la lib�ration du camp par les Sovi�tiques. La guerre finie, il �pouse Lucia Morpurgo, dont il aura deux enfants, et prend la direction d'une entreprise de produits chimiques. Parall�lement, il commence � �crire. Son premier livre, Si c'est un homme , le journal de sa d�portation, paru en 1947, est l'un des tout premiers t�moignages sur l'horreur d'Auschwitz. Publi� � l'origine dans une petite maison d'�dition italienne, ce n'est que dix ans plus tard qu'il est mondialement reconnu comme un chef-d'oeuvre. Primo Levi est �galement l'auteur d'une douzaine d'ouvrages, des r�cits, des nouvelles, dont plusieurs furent couronn�s par des prix. Primo Levi s'est donn� la mort en 1987.
