His interest in photography started around 1860, and by 1863 he had founded the Berlin Photographische Verein, and in 1864 he was awarded the chair of photochemistry at the academy. His research in dye sensitization of photographic plates made possible the development of orthochromatic, panchromatic and color photography. He was a prolific writer of books and articles on photography. This volume offers a cogent survey of the process and possibilities to its time. Roosens and Salu No. 7957.
