About this Item

4to. 9.5 x 12.5" (24 x 32 cm) 32p. Illustrated with black and white captioned photos of the lead singers in the opera plus numerous period ads. Plus two articles as follows: "Previous Seattle Visits" by J. Willis Sayre and "1931 Tour Chicago Civic Opera Company." Also brief sketches of the various singers in the opera performances. Stapled booklet in limp mauve and purple wrappers printed in purple and decorated in silver with an elaborate Art Deco design. Wrappers slightly rubbed on leading edge, colors bright, staples very slightly rusted, else very good to near fine--all in all in unusually good condition for an item so fragile. The Chicago Civic Opera Company first started coming to Seattle in the 1920s. It was one of the few opportunities for Seattlites to hear professional opera until the founding of Seattle Opera in the 1960s. Bookseller Inventory # 005291
