About this Item

First Printing. Octavo; 3/4 red paper over quarter navy blue cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; 197,[2]pp. Base of the spine is faintly nudged, with a 2mm strip of fading at the crown of the spine, else Fine and clean throughout. Dustjacket is unclipped, and absent chips or tears. The red lettering on the spine is faded just a few shades, with a faint dampstain at the head of the spine and a smaller one at the corner tip of the rear flap fold; both of these are only visible on the verso, and have not affected the book - Very Good+ to Near Fine. This copy is inscribed to an administrator at the Santa Fe Institute, one of the world's top science think tanks. McCarthy is a trustee of the Institute, and by his own admission has written several of his books there. Though he is not a scientist, his presence and humanistic approach is welcome there, among the physicists and Nobel laureates whom he counts as friends and sources of excellent lunch conversation. A superb inscribed copy of McCarthy's third novel, with an extremely interesting association. Basis for the film adaptation directed by James Franco. Bookseller Inventory # 948
