2nd printing, 10/73 of the 1973 original. XII, 302 PP with 2 maps and 17 b/w illustrations (7 on double page). Eps: Abandonment of the whalers in the Arctic Ocean, September 1871. Cloth cover, gilt title on spine, dj. Dust jacket has a few small pieces missing and is in a protective sleeve. Note at top of title page blocked out (liquid ink). Otherwise a near fine copy. 24 x 16. Out of a fleet of 39 American whaling ships, 32 of them were trapped or crushed by the ice pack in 1871-72.
