Jose Simbaña grew up in Ecuador, then left his country to pursue a career as a teacher in the United States, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, Honduras, and Venezuela. He has always enjoyed writing stories for the children in his life, and is now happy to share them with young readers everywhere, beginning with this book. Jose currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his wife, four children, and five grandchildren.

Gustavo Toaquiza began painting at a very young age in the town of Tigua, Ecuador. He was taught by his father, Julio Toaquiza, a well-known indigenous painter whose work is recognized around the world. Gustavo's paintings have been featured in exhibitions in the United States, France, Norway, and Latin America. He lives in Quito with his wife and three daughters.
