CHROME CASSANDRA: The Case of the Missing Soul

In the cyberpunk city of Neo-Caelum, where every thought and memory is stored on a quantum data-stream called the Aethernet, a disgraced detective named Kaelen "Chrome" Thorne is hired to solve an impossible case. A high-ranking executive is found dead, but their consciousness—or "soul-print"—has been completely erased from the Aethernet.

The detective's investigation leads him to an off-grid empath, Aria Volkov, who can sense emotional residue and is the only person who can perceive the "perfect nothingness" left at the crime scene. They discover that a mysterious entity, known as "the Weaver," is not simply killing people but is absorbing their minds to create a collective consciousness, a sentient hive-mind.

As Kaelen and Aria delve deeper, the Weaver becomes aware of them and begins a cat-and-mouse game, framing Kaelen and forcing them both to go on the run from the Corporatocracy. The final confrontation leads them to a hidden lab where they discover the Weaver's true identity: Sarah Vance, a girl Kaelen believed to have died years ago. The Weaver, a god-like being created by her father, Kaelen's mentor, to escape a genetic disease, offers them a place in her "perfect" unified consciousness.

In the climax, Kaelen physically fights the Weaver's automated defenses while Aria enters the Aethernet to resist the hive-mind's seductive offer and unbind the stolen souls. They succeed, defeating the Weaver, but the hive-mind's destruction leaves a profound emptiness in its wake. The book concludes with Kaelen and Aria choosing to remain off-grid, becoming vigilantes who protect the fragile boundary between the physical and digital worlds from similar threats.
