Legatura allentata in mz.pelle, con fisiologiche spellature. Tassello con titoli in oro al dorso a sei nervature. La tavola n°147 è rilegata a mò di antiporta. Ex libris Lauder of Fountainball Baronet. Terza edizione, dopo quelle del 1740 e del 1745, con ricchissimo apparato iconografico, di un'opera dell'architetto e paesaggista Batty Langley (Twickenham, 1696 ? 1751). Ereditata dal padre la professione di giardiniere, si trasformò in vero e proprio progettatore di giardini, riscuotendo buon successo fra l'aristocrazia britannica e pubblicando svariati saggi sull'argomento. Ascritto alla massoneria, si trasferì a Londra nel 1729, ivi dedicandosi più specificamente all'attività di architetto, continuando una prolifica produzione libraria che riscosse grande attenzione oltreoceano. "His book, with engravings by his brother Thomas, attempted to improve Gothic forms by giving them classical proportions and to create a scheme of architectural orders for Gothic architecture" (da Wikipedia). > Reiff, "Houses from Books: Treatises, Pattern Books, and Catalogs in .", 28, "Langley's "Treasure of Designs . was certainly widely used in America. The front door of Mount Vernon, in Virginia, during the remodeling of 1758-1759, was based on plate 33 (right doorway).
