Title-page printed in red and black. pp(8)414(2)/(2) with a scattering of modest headpieces and decorated initial capitals; recto of leaf following page 414 with Morden advertisements, final leaf blank. Margins trimmed, upper margins quite severely - here & there affecting page headings, but with no loss of legibility. Title-page toned along inner edge and lightly so elsewheres, a little dust- & handling-marked, lightly creased across lower outer corner, with owner's name of some age at upper edge, and with sizeable patchy dampstain around lower inner corner - persisting up to final leaf of preface, but with minimal effect where overlapping print, then with much reduced effect & extent up to page 4. Cluster of small ink spots & dots at verso of first leaf of preface. Two consecutive leaves - pages 49-52 - with pale dampstain confined to margins at lower inner corners. Hinges strained between pages 402 & 403 and between page 414 & advertisement leaf. Contents otherwise here & there lightly toned and/or lightly dust- & handling-marked, with scatterings of isolated spots, minor dampstains and mainly-minor splash-stains - the largest and deepest in tone of diameter up to 3cm at page 71. Near-contemporary full dark speckled calf, spine with five raised bands, boards with blindstamped panels and gilt-decorated edges. Spine rubbed, chipped with loss at head and a little loss at foot, with a number of hairline surface splits, and with no remaining signs of title. Rear hinge rubbed and partly split, signs of repair to splits along darkened front hinge. Board edges lightly rubbed, with loss of most of gilt decoration; outer corners lightly worn, being rubbed, bumped and curled. Missing front flyleaf and (if any) preliminary leaves. Translucent paper strip of width 1.5cm applied some time ago as reinforcement along previously broken or strained hinge between pastedown and title-page; the pastedown a little dusty, with plus (+) sign at upper outer outer corner and manuscript 4-digit number of some age close to upper edge. Replacement rear endpapers of some age. Red-speckled edges of text-block a little rubbed, and top edge darkened. Binding holding firmly and of reasonably decent appearance; contents tight and for the most part clean. The whole with a number of flaws, but in view of age in reasonably GOOD condition.
