I learned caring ministry first from my father, William A. Swets, long before he served as Minister of Pastoral Care at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Along with my mother, he parented me and my five sisters with firmness and caring.
At Hope College in Holland Michigan, I majored in Psychology because I wanted to know why we behave as we do. I wanted to know and positively influence behavior through the gifts, training, and circumstances I had been given.
During my Junior year at Hope, I asked myself how I could best use any gift granted to me. I came to believe that helping people to know God was the most important task for me and felt God was leading me to prepare for ministry at Western Theological Seminary in Holland Michigan.
After serving as a campus minister at the University of Michigan and senior minister of a small church in Florida, I was called to be Minister of Pastoral Care at Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis Tennessee.
