Comprised of three witty and whimsical novellas, Commas Are Our Friends may be the first book ever to teach grammar and punctuation in an enjoyable, memorable and humorous way. It is not for English majors or college professors. It is for the 138,654,718 Americans who have forgotten what they were taught in high school and would like to get it all back.

Review
"Commas Are Our Friends by Joe Devine is a cheerful, funny, fresh approach to American grammar. Anyone who has to put words on paper will find Commas an entertaining journey through the shoals of syntax." -- Los Angeles Daily News, June 24, 1990
"Commas Are Our Friends succeeds well in its purpose to educate while entertaining. (Or is it the other way around?) Joe Devine is a clever, witty man with an astonishing imagination. His book is creative and funny. I could make the associations, remember the characters, recall the examples. I believe that Devine's use of humor and fantasy heightened my retention, and retention is the bottom line in any learning situation." -- Society For Scholarly Publishing, December, 1991
"Adults and young adults alike will find this fun and educational, but it will prove particularly valuable for young adults who may be having problems with traditional methods of learning grammar and who want something stimulating and unusual for an alternative." -- The Midwest Book Review, March, 1991
"Devine's book is an attempt to overcome a common American malady--grammar phobia--with a humorous touch. In it, you'll unravel the mysteries of prepositions, interjections, restrictive appositives, and other grammatical 'horrors' through such tales as the discovery (and curse) of the fabled Punctuation Stone." -- The Plain Dealer--Cleveland, April 8, 1991
