COMMUNICATION OF SECRETARY OF WAR Feb. 22, 1865.[relative to the number of able-bodied men between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, claimed to be exempt from conscription by the Governor, laws and resolutions of the state of Georgia. Transmitted by a] MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT. Richmond, Va., Feb. 22, 1865. To the House of Representatives Single leaf printed and folded to make 3pp, bears the oval Rebel Archives stamp (faint but entirely legible); somewhat toned with mild edgewear and spots in paperstock, very good. Exempted persons total 8,229, comprised of government officials, judges, justices of the peace (1,350), tax collectors (also 1,350), sheriffs and coroners, et alia. This Confederate Imprint is one of more than 100 recently acquired, most with 'Rebel Archives' stamp on the cover, indicating that these were the actual copies seized by the Union Army at the end of the Civil War. A remarkable collection.
