Discover how to understand, care for, and confidently manage one of the world’s most fascinating reptile companions.
Whether you are preparing for your first leopard gecko or looking to strengthen your existing husbandry knowledge, THE COMPLETE LEOPARD GECKO HANDBOOK: ESSENTIAL KEEPER’S GUIDE provides a practical and educational approach to understanding Eublepharis macularius and supporting its health and well-being throughout life.
Leopard geckos are admired for their striking patterns, manageable size, fascinating behavior, and generally calm temperament. However, successful ownership requires much more than simply placing a gecko in a tank and providing insects. Temperature gradients, enclosure design, nutrition, supplementation, hydration, shedding, handling, enrichment, and preventive health care all play important roles in responsible husbandry.
This comprehensive handbook takes readers from the natural biology and evolutionary background of the leopard gecko through the practical responsibilities of everyday captive care.
Inside this guide, you will discover:
- Leopard gecko taxonomy, anatomy, natural history, intelligence, temperament, and behavior
- How to choose a healthy leopard gecko and prepare for responsible ownership
- Practical enclosure design with appropriate hides, substrates, furnishings, and environmental enrichment
- Heating, lighting, humidity, and temperature-management principles
- Feeding strategies using suitable feeder insects and dietary variety
- Gut-loading, calcium, vitamin D3, and supplementation fundamentals
- Hydration, shedding, skin care, and prevention of retained shed
- Safe handling techniques and methods for gradually building trust
- Common health concerns, warning signs, quarantine, hygiene, and veterinary care
- Leopard gecko morphs, colors, genetics, and responsible selective breeding
- Sex identification, sexual maturity, courtship, and reproductive biology
- Breeding preparation, egg incubation, hatching, and early hatchling development
- Care considerations for hatchlings, juveniles, adults, breeding animals, and senior geckos
- Communication, hunting behavior, enrichment, learning, and environmental exploration
- Long-term welfare, emergency preparation, responsible rehoming, and lifelong care
Written with both new and experienced keepers in mind, this handbook explains not only what leopard geckos need but also why those requirements matter. It emphasizes careful observation, appropriate environmental choices, responsible nutrition, and welfare-focused husbandry.
From selecting your first gecko and building its habitat to understanding genetics, breeding, senior care, and long-term health management, this guide provides a valuable reference for every stage of leopard gecko ownership.
If you want to create a secure, stimulating, and carefully managed environment while developing a deeper understanding of your reptile’s natural biology, THE COMPLETE LEOPARD GECKO HANDBOOK: ESSENTIAL KEEPER’S GUIDE belongs in your reptile-care library.
Build your knowledge, improve your husbandry, and give your leopard gecko the informed care it deserves throughout every stage of life.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
