This book reconsiders the central epistemological problem since Descartes: the relationship of Mind/World. This is done not through the direct examination of rationality but through an analysis of the concept of objectivity. The development of the idea of objective knowledge is traced from the Presocratics to its effective culmination in Renaissance Science. The argument is that history shows that the acceptance of either a foundational or criteriological theory of truth is not a condition for the occurrence of progressive knowledge. The book concludes with the argument that the apparatus for objective judgment might further, with suitable modification, be transferred to problem areas outside of the empirical investigation of the Physical and Social Sciences.

Shipping Terms

We ship all DOMESTIC United States orders using the United States Postal Service (USPS). Orders can be tracked at the USPS website: usps.com. The cost of domestic media mail postage is $3.99 (Arrival time is usually 5-10 days). The cost of domestic PRIORITY POSTAGE is $14.99 (Arrival time is usually 3-5 days). There is no extra cost for heavy books or multiple volume sets if they are sent via media mail postage.

We will ship all INTERNATIONAL orders via USPS PRIORITY AIRMAIL POST or USPS PRIORITY AIRMAIL FLAT RATE ENVELOPE and charge an initial shipping fee of $75.00 for international orders. If the book is small enough to fit in an International Priority Airmail Envelope then we will REFUND THE COST of any international postage overpayment. WE CANNOT TRACK INTERNATIONAL ORDERS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES. Sometimes international orders arrive later than expected.
