Synopsis

This reprint appears to be the fourth edition based
on the author's introduction. This work, first written in
French and published in Holland in 1771, is considered the
best treatise on the English Constitution. Ironically, it
was written by a foreigner who lived in England for only a
few years prior to the release of the French edition.
Book I is a survey of the various powers included in the
English Constitution, and of the Laws both in civil and
criminal cases. Book II is a view of the advantages of the
English Government, and of the rights and liberties of the
people; and a confirmation, by reference to facts, of the
principles stated in the work. Both Books I and II are
under one cover in 404 pages.
