Comme toutes les jeunes filles de son �poque, elle se marie et devient m�re de famille. Elle se s�pare pourtant de son mari pour mener une vie ind�pendante, d�cision qui fit scandale. Ses premiers romans, "Indiana" et "L�lia", ont un immense succ�s : elle devient c�l�bre, sous le pseudonyme de George Sand. �crivain engag�, elle revendique pour les femmes le droit au divorce, � l'�galit� civile et elle s'enthousiasme pour la r�volution de 1848. Sous le Second Empire, elle continue d'�crire, publiant notamment "La petite Fadette". Ses oeuvres les plus connues sont ses romans "paysans" mais elle est aussi l'auteur de contes, de l�gendes, de romans au r�alisme social tr�s marqu� et de nombreuses pi�ces de th��tre, ainsi que vingt-quatre volumes de correspondance ! George Sand est d�c�d�e le 8 juin 1876.
