Mientras tratan de perfeccionar el funcionamiento de una gran antena, Arno Penzias y Robert Wilson, dos jóvenes radioastrónomos de los laboratorios Bell, en Holmdel, Nueva Jersey, captan un molesto ruido de fondo, omnipresente y misterioso. Corre el año 1964, y así comienza una investigación que los llevará a repasar medio siglo de historia de la ciencia y culminará con uno de los descubrimientos más trascendentales del hombre hasta la fecha.
Siguiendo las huellas de otros científicos, algunos muy célebres y otros apenas conocidos, Penzias y Wilson se topan con hallazgos sensacionales e intuiciones injustamente desatendidas. Desde Einstein y Hubble hasta el cura y científico Lemaître, pasando por el iconoclasta Gamow y el hierático Hoyle, cada uno de ellos entrevió un fragmento de la solución pero ninguno logró visualizar el cuadro completo.
Y cuando éste finalmente toma cuerpo, surge la idea de que tras ese ruido banal se esconde algo muy grande, nada menos que la respuesta a la pregunta que la humanidad lleva planteándose desde sus orígenes: ¿cómo y cuándo nació el universo?

About the Author
Rossano Piccioni es director de arte, consultor, diseñador gráfico e ilustrador. Ha ganado numerosos premios nacionales e internacionales. Es el fundador de la Escuela de Cómic Adriática, que nació con el objetivo de fomentar, promover y publicar a los jóvenes talentos del cómic.
Amedeo Balbi es un astrofísico que trabaja como investigador en la Universidad Tor Vergata, de Roma. Dedica una parte importante de su tiempo a la enseñanza y la divulgación. Ha trabajado en Berkeley, California, con el premio Nobel George Smoot, así como en numerosos laboratorios internacionales, entre ellos el Fermilab de Chicago y el Laboratorio de Propulsión a Chorro de Pasadena. Asimismo, ha participado en la misión espacial Planck, de la Agencia Espacial Europea. Es autor de La música del Big Bang (2007) y Seconda stella a destra (2010), obras aún inéditas en español.
