Que Corporation, Indianapolis, and compiled and edited Digital Research, Pacific Grove, CA, 1983; 205 x 275mm; pp vi, 354; pictorial cover on white card, very good copy. . . . . . Digital Research, incorporated in 1974 in Monterey, CA, then with the modest prefix "Intergalactic", made a valuable contribution to the developing personal computer scene. Before this there was a plethora of different operating systems, something which DR was able to overcome the diversity and establish a common standard applicable to both the single computer system and networked devices (MP/M, 1979). Directly competitive with the DR CP/M approach was Microsoft, whose MS-DOS was taken up by IBM - and named PC-DOS - for its so-called IBM Personal Computer released in the US in1981. Digital Research continued to produce specialst operating systems but was bought out in 1981 by Novell. . . . . . The catalogue, prepared by Digital Research, lists nearly 2,000 software products, conveniently separated into four different relevant categories - hardware, operating systems, languages and applications - and sometimes further subdivided according to business type or focus. Each entry identifies the relevant company and the program and gives a short but reasonably detailed summary description. There's also a history of Digital Research and several photographs. The catalogue is a useful entry to the diversity of available software at the time and a history of early development. Seller Inventory # 001655

Store Description
Books are described carefully, accurately and fairly. Despite this errors can occur and of course we'll acknowledge any brought to our attention. If this error is material then we'll either make an appropriate partial refund or allow you to return the book at our cost and make a full refund of the book and postage costs originally paid by you.
Unfortunately too many booksellers, or at least among those recently come to the trade and treating books primarily as commodities, get over-optimistic ab...
More InformationBooks are priced individually and those prices do not include shipping costs or insurance. Books can also be collected, by arrangement.
The shipping matrix is, and can only be, a very rough guide to postage costs being based, as it is, on a base weight of 1kg (2.2lbs), with the additional book bringing that weight up to a maximum of 2Kg and with the package as a whole fitting in to the "small parcel" criterion of height + width + depth not exceeding 90cm and with no single side longer than 60cm (which certainly covers ordinary books, of course).
In consequence, postage costs may be less or more than estimated in that matrix but will always be charged at whatever rate Royal Mail has come up with at the time. We'll also seek to minimise postal charges by packing two or more books together or by using carriers for larger consignments, as appropriate. As for compensation for loss or damage in transit, Royal Mail has quietly reduced the amounts that can be claimed to £20.00 in general but additional insurance can be had and we'll let you know how much that will be where necessary.
