MY CUP RUNNETH OVER AND STAINETH THE CARPET

Judith Klausner's enhanced memoir, "My Cup Runneth Over and Staineth the Carpet," is an amusing collection of vignettes wound together like the braids on a Challah. Judith married an acclaimed Rabbi, Abraham J. Klausner; it was the second marriage for both. When Judith arrived at his hundred-year-old home in Yonkers, NY, she came as a package it consisted of two children, two weathered station wagons, beloved paintings and clothing (little of which proved suitable for a Rebbetzin or her children). Judith had no knowledge of her position in life, or that she even had a position. She knew nothing of what the large congregation's expectations would be. The congregants were used to an outspoken, silver-tongued, Reform Rabbi they thought had a direct connection to the Lord. That thought was short-lived. Judith Klausner's enhanced memiors are filled with charm, sly humor, compassion and poignant memories, some bittersweet. In her new life, charm, grief and a great deal of love and happiness play out their roles as she tries effectively to fulfill her role as the mother of four children and an active Rebbetzin. While reading this celebration of everyday life, we are reminded that we are like large Matzo balls -- some sink to the bottom while others rise to the top and float.
