About the Author

Edmond Eug�ne Alexis Rostand est n� � Marseille le 1er avril 1868 et s'est �teint � Paris le 2 d�cembre 1918. Il suivit des �tudes dans sa ville natale puis dans la capitale avant de s'orienter vers le droit. Parall�lement � cette activit�, Edmond Rostand �crit : des pi�ces tout d'abord, de la po�sie ensuite. Il composa notamment deux pi�ces en vers pour Sarah Bernhardt, La Princesse lointaine en 1895 et La Samaritaine en 1897. � la fin de cette m�me ann�e est mont� Cyrano de Bergerac qui rencontre imm�diatement un triomphe d'une ampleur rarement �gal�e. Sa pi�ce suivante, L'Aiglon, re�oit un excellent accueil aupr�s du public et Edmond Rostand est �lu � l'Acad�mie fran�aise en 1901. Il continue d'�crire pour le th��tre et La Derni�re Nuit de don Juan fut publi�e � titre posthume en 1921.
