The Cabinet-Maker And Upholsterer's Guide: Being A Complete Drawing Book, In Which Will Be Comprised Treatises On Geometry And Perspective features numerous engravings by George Smith. This 1826 London publication serves as a comprehensive drawing book for cabinet-makers and upholsterers, integrating geometry and perspective with practical instruction. It begins with an introduction that outlines the history of English furniture design from the Norman and Gothic periods to the Arabesque and Regency era, highlighting the essential role of perspective and geometry in design. The work offers extensive treatments in geometry and practical geometry, including definitions of points, lines, angles, triangles, and methods for constructing perpendiculars, parallels, angles, and polygons, accompanied by plates of mouldings, plans, and scales. It also covers perspective theory and practice, demonstrating how to lay out plans, elevations, and projections for furniture such as tables, chairs, bookcases, beds, and decorative fittings, along with sections on ornamental drawing, shadowing, and interior decoration. The volume includes instructions, patterns, and examples to assist craftsmen in drawing and manufacturing.
