About this title

Synopsis

A curated compilation of historical writings on gem cutting practices, this volume brings together classic articles from the early 20th century and earlier that focus on cabochon cutting.

Covering traditional methods and tools used by gem cutters, Cabochon Cutting provides insight into how cabochons--gemstones shaped with a smooth, rounded top and flat base--were worked and finished in their historical context.

Contents include:

• The Art of Gem Cutting by Fred S. Young
• Popular Gemology by Richard M. Pearl
• The Art of Gem Cutting, including Cabachons, Faceting, Spheres, Tumbling and Special Techniques by H. C. Dake

Carefully selected for relevance to modern readers, the text retains the original material and illustrations, offering both technical detail and historical perspective on the craft of cutting and polishing gemstones.
