The Caitlin Clark Effect: Women's Basketball and the Rise of a Transformational Star

Caitlin Clark is a generational talent that has had an undeniable influence on basketball, and this book examines its extent. The "Caitlin Clark Effect" is generally understood to be Clark's ability to garner more eyes on the sport of women's basketball. This study focuses on the interplay between Clark's athletic talent and the evolving landscape of women's basketball. Rather than reducing the narrative to a singular biography, it examines Clark's unprecedented rise as a convergence of multiple factors such as media expansion and cultural momentum. Going through the main points of Clark's career, the book highlights other players--mostly Clark's peers--to test how the Caitlin Clark Effect works. While it gets into numbers, the emphasis is on the human aspect of the Caitlin Clark Effect, and the stories shared by other players explain Clark's impact on the sport, as well as the sport's impact on Clark.
