A major complaint of professors teaching calculus is that students don't have the appropriate background to work through the calculus course successfully. Robin Gottlieb has been teaching in the mathematics department at Harvard since the early 1980's. She is a Professor of the Practice in the Teaching of Mathematics. She wrote this text to accompany an integrated precalculus-calculus course that was developed to serve the needs of students.
