Called to Lead

Called to Lead: Women's Ministries and the Transformation of Christianity in Northern Nigeria offers a compelling examination of how women have reshaped church life amid theological restriction and deeply rooted cultural patriarchy. Drawing on qualitative field research and firsthand narratives, Joseph Igbudu Azembeh reveals how women, often excluded from formal leadership structures, have established vibrant ministries that respond to urgent spiritual, social, and economic needs across Northern Nigeria. Through stories of calling, resistance, adaptation, and innovation, the book traces the emergence of independent and para-church movements that both complement and quietly challenge established ecclesial systems. Rather than portraying women's leadership as rebellion, this study presents it as a faithful response to divine vocation and mission urgency. Blending theological reflection with lived experience, Called to Lead invites scholars, church leaders, and practitioners to rethink authority, service, and mission while recognizing the transformative role of women in shaping the future of Christianity.
