The Callings

Identity in Christ was never meant to stay private. Volume Two of The Callings series, God Summons the Saints, takes the foundation laid in Our Common Callings — the seven identities that belong to every believer simply by virtue of union with Christ — and traces how that identity is meant to be lived out among others and sent into mission.
The volume opens by naming the shift explicitly: having established what a believer is, it turns to callings that describe not what someone is in isolation, but how that identity plays out in relationship and mission. Called to Liberty examines a freedom the author insists was never meant for self-indulgence but for service — “ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Called to Peace distinguishes a peace that governs the heart from mere calm feeling. Called unto Fellowship with Christ explores what it means to be summoned into communion with Him before any summons outward. From there the book turns outward in earnest: Called to Be Servants examines servanthood as calling rather than obligation; Called to Suffer takes up one of the New Testament's most countercultural claims — that suffering for Christ's sake is itself a calling, not merely something to be endured; Called to Be Ambassadors considers what it means to represent Christ's kingdom to a watching world; Called to One Hope anchors the believer's outward life in a single unifying hope rather than competing loyalties; and Called to Good Works closes the case that liberty, peace, and fellowship are not private possessions to be enjoyed alone but callings meant to be outworked in community.
Across eight chapters of careful, biblically grounded exposition, reflection questions suited to personal or group study, and a complete Scripture index, this volume answers a question every growing believer eventually asks: now that I know who I am in Christ, what does that identity actually require of me among other people? The conclusion, “Liberty That Serves, Peace That Governs, Fellowship That Sends,” draws the whole volume's argument into a single picture — a strong stand-alone study for any believer or small group wrestling with what faith looks like in community, and the natural next step after Volume One.
