A Calm Temperament Expectant of Good (A Memoir)

Don Perkins' story is, in truth, many stories. It is the story of merit and hard work overcoming the handicap of poverty and achieving success -- the epitome of the promise of America. It is a business story -- the growth of major U.S. corporation responding to and leading its market. It is the story of a manager and leader, driven by the fundamental respect for others -- who grew a business by leveraging the fundamental strengths and aspirations of individuals, not by treating them as fungible, commandable resources. It is a story of corporate goverance and board relationships -- both prescriptive and reassuring example of the many counter-examples to the unfortunate corporate scandals of recent times. It is the story of someone determined to make a difference in his community, and who recognizes that his community is, increasingly, the world. Finally it is the story of a loving and beloved father.
