"Special edition" of this novel of the building of a Chicago grain elevator by a Competent Man, deeply inspirational to Ayn Rand, who later called it her favorite novel; the authors were both prolific Evanston authors who collaborated on two other books. Hardcover, as pictured; first published three years earlier - it's not clear what makes this printing "special", but it's the fourth Macmillan printing, after its initial serialization in the Saturday Evening Post in 1901. Hardcover, as pictured; no jacket. General wear, minor stains, front endsheets & page edges foxed, rubberstamped ex-libris name (litigious Michigan landowner Fanny R. S. Balen) on title page, minor damage & light stains to a few pages. Text clean; [6], 345 pages, drawing & a few figures. Size: Duodecimo. Seller Inventory # v0631
