How I Came Out from Rome: an Autobiography. Transl

How I Came Out From Rome: An Autobiography. Transl by C. L. Trivier is a first-person account of a French clergyman's dramatic religious conversion. The author, formerly a priest in the Diocese of Dijon, recounts his early advocacy of Roman Catholic practices, his growing exposure to Protestant arguments, and his methodical study of Scripture and Protestant writings. Through a series of intellectual investigations, conversations with Protestant pastors, and careful reading of biblical texts, he comes to question key Roman Catholic doctrines such as the Eucharist, penance, purgatory, and the authority of tradition. The narrative then details his gradual shift from the Roman Church toward Evangelical Protestantism, the challenges of leaving a longtime vocation, and the personal and communal upheavals that followed the choice. He also documents his attempts to circulate the New Testament and his discussions at Protestant meetings in Paris, culminating in a decisive public separation from Rome in May 1845 and his commitment to the gospel message. This biography of spiritual crisis, inquiry, and reform highlights the author’s belief in Scripture as the sole rule of faith and life.
