About this title

Synopsis

Introduction by Peter Cozzens, author of "No Better Place to Die: The Battle of Stones River" and "This Terrible Sound: The Battle of Chicamauga".

Keith Rocco is one of America's most sought after narrative artists. His Civil War murals cover more than 4,000 square feet at The National Museum Of the Civil War Soldier at Pamplin Historical Park near Petersburg, Virginia, and his work is featured at more than a dozen National Park Service sites.

Now Civil War enthusiasts can enjoy many of Rocco's never before published paintings in a collection that celebrates the sweeping power of this noted Civil War artist. This book includes a wide variety of Keith Rocco's artwork, from intriguing single figure illustrations to extensive combat scenes.

Each painting has a unique story, not only about the historical incident it portrays, but also about the fascinating methods in which Rocco worked at research and recreation.

"There is no better way to understand a period and its people than by holding an artifact in your hands," explains the artist. Obtaining artifacts such as weapons and accouterments, as well as referencing historical eyewitness drawings, underscores Rocco's commitment to accuracy. The artist has even gone so far as to obtain a sample of earth from a historical site just to get the colors right. It is attention to detail that give Rocco's work a degree of authenticity for which he has become famous, earning high marks from historians and enthusiasts alike.

On Campaign During the Civil War: The Art of Keith Rocco features the best of Keith Rocco's Civil War soldier studies, dramatic vignettes, and exciting battle scenes. In addition to highlighting Rocco's most popular works in a retrospective that covers more than twenty years of his career, this presentation also includes new works created specifically for the release of this book
