252 p. 19 cm. 16 b&w plates, including frontispiece of Macdonald. Tan cloth in myalr-covered dustjacket. Jacket has chips and tears to edges, darkened spine, some soiling to rear panel. "In this book the author, who was intimately concerned with the Canadian Pacific Railway in the early days of its constuction, gives a vivid and racy account of the adventure and enterprise invovled in the building of the railway. Mr. Secretan has many good stories to tell of the pioneer days of the C.P.R., and the book is attractively illustrated from photographs of past and present scenes on the railway." "Racy" tales include murder, a bear hunt, the Northwest Rebellion, a prospector's funeral, etc.
