The Cancer Handbook. This item is unavailable. The Cancer Handbook

"The Cancer Handbook" is a two-volume reference work that provides a comprehensive overview of cancer research and oncology. It is a reference resource that deals with both the scientific and clinical disciplines of cancer. It contains over 100 chapters each of which is approximately 10-15 pages (5000-14,500 words) in length. International editors have selected over 200 contributors, drawn from the international biomedical community, to provide up-to-date information on all aspects of cancer. Fields covered include molecular and cellular basis of cancer, causation and prevention, diagnostic and investigative procedures, systemic oncology and pre-clinical models of cancer treatment.

Providing a comprehensive overview of scientific and clinical information in all major areas of cancer biology and medicine, The Cancer Handbook stands out from existing oncology textbooks and reference works in that it bridges between the molecular biology of cancer and clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Covering a wide range of subjects - from basic cell biology to the systemic oncology of all major organs and tissues - the content of The Cancer Handbook has been organised into these major sections:

• The Molecular Basis of Cell and Tissue Organisation
• The Causation and Prevention of Cancer
• Systemic Oncology
• Pre-Clinical Models for Human Cancer
• Diagnostic Imaging and Image-guided Intervention
• The Treatment of Human Cancer

Written with an emphasis on clarity of style, each chapter includes numerous tables and illustrations prepared specifically for the book.  Added to this are detailed colour plate sections in each volume.  Each chapter concludes with a list of key references and a bibliography of recommended further reading.  Extensive cross-references allow for comparisons between experimental research and treatment.  A comprehensive glossary completes this major new resource for those who are not experts in the area.

Editor-in-Chief Malcolm Alison (Professor of Experimental Pathology, Imperial College, London) heads an eminent panel of international editors and advisors for The Handbook, which will be an indispensible resource not only for medical and life science students, but all scientists, clinicians and researchers working in the cancer field and related biomedical areas.
