Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. Complete. A gentle copy. The dustjacket is much worn and is included. The book has been subjected to damp storage as some stage. The back board has damp tide-marks, the end pages have stains to the top edges. The enjoyment of these pages is unaffected. The front boards are placid, marked from handling and storage. Leather spine that has a name noted on it. The contents are genteel. The illustrations are amiable, clean, clear, pleasing. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Signed by Author(s)Complete. The 12 plates produced in this generous, charming book came from a bundle of paintings that had been thought 'lost'. As General Jan Smuts lay dying a mysterious parcel arrived for him from England. These contained the 100 or so paintings that had not been published in Arabella's lifetime. The book has been signed by Allan Bird (dated 1968) on the frontispage. At some stage the book has been subjected to damp conditions and the bottom right corners have been stained. The dustjacket has thick, clear plastic cover. This is a little scruffy. The dustjacket is dusty, mild with some wear. Cloth boards, leather spine. The boards are serene with some light shelving wear. The spine is dignified and neat. Within, apart from the staining (which does not intrude on the glorious paintings) the pages are thick, luxe, amiable. They are elegant, the illustrations bright and fresh, charming and frameable.
