Active in leftist politics from his teens, Jazani was an important activist & theorist, opposed to the Shah's rule until he was killed by the Shah's secret police in 1975. The essays printed here discuss the history of Iran, land reform, the nature of capitalism, and forces behind the revolutionary movements there. The publishers note his importance as a "Third World" intellectual commenting on capitalism's effects on his own society, rather than the commoner outsider's view. The book concludes with an afterword discussing the situation in Iran after the Shah's overthrow, noting Khomeini opposed both some religious radicals and the secular group Jazani helped found, the Organisation of Iranian People's Fedaii Guerillas or Fedaii-e-khalq.
