With breathtaking speed and unparalleled luxury, Concorde soared at 60,000 feet, allowing its passengers to witness the earth's curvature and the deep blue of outer space. For Brian Walpole, who piloted this engineering masterpiece at Mach 2, it was an experience like no other - a demanding, thrilling and ultimately life-changing career.
Captain Concorde by Brian Walpole OBE (with Graham Lacey) provides a unique perspective on the precision and skill required to control an aircraft that was the darling of the world's elite. Not to mention transporting the Ryder Cup on the flight deck or paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II with a flypast of Royal Yacht Britannia in Barbados!
But beyond the glamour and awe, he reveals the intense pressures and behind-the-scenes challenges that came with commanding the world's fastest passenger plane.
Many memories from a remarkable life fill the pages of this book: the intriguing flight and faith journey of a young man who went from the tranquillity of the Surrey Hills to the supersonic heights of the most iconic plane in aviation history, and along the way had a surprising encounter with a God-fearing journalist which changed his life forever.
"Few civilian pilots have reached the heights or speeds Brian Walpole did and this well-written account treats both his flying and his journey of faith with equal honesty, insight and wisdom."
J.John, Reverend Canon
"A delight to read, Captain Concorde is a wonderfully entertaining true story and will capture the imagination of all, from the most cynical of engineers, to those who dreamt of flying on Concorde and never got the chance, to those who have questions about faith and who Jesus really is.”
Josh McDowell, Author and Apologist
"The success of Brian and the Concorde Division exceeded every expectation and was a joy to be part of."
Jock Lowe, Concorde Captain
