Captain January is a heartwarming children's novel written by Laura E. Richards. The story revolves around a young girl named Star, who lives with her guardian, Captain January, in a lighthouse on the coast of Maine. Captain January is a retired sailor who has taken in Star after she was left on his doorstep as a baby. The novel follows their daily life together, including their adventures in the lighthouse, their interactions with the local townspeople, and Star's growing curiosity about her past. However, their peaceful existence is threatened when a wealthy woman arrives in town and decides she wants to adopt Star and take her away from Captain January. As the story unfolds, Star and Captain January must fight to stay together and keep their family intact. Along the way, they learn important lessons about love, loyalty, and the true meaning of family. Captain January is a timeless classic that has been beloved by generations of readers since its original publication in 1891. With its charming characters, beautiful setting, and heartwarming message, this book is sure to capture the hearts of readers young and old.""Then I heard them agin!"" the old man assented. ""And agin! a flash, and a boom! and then in a minute agin, a flash and a boom! 'Oh, Lord!' says I. 'Take her by to the mainland, and put her ashore there!' I says; 'cause there's a life-saving station thar, ye know, Blossom, and there might be some chance for them as were in her. But the Lord had His views, my dear, the Lord had His views! Amen! so be it! In another minute there kem a break in the clouds, and thar she was, comin' full head on, straight for Light Island. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
