Carbide in Special Steel: Formation Mechanism and Control Technology (Engineering Materials)

This book summarizes the research results of carbide control in special steel from the authors. It includes the evolution and control of carbide in special steel in the process of electroslag remelting, rolling, and heat treatment, as well as the effect of alloying treatment (rare earth, magnesium, nitrogen, titanium) as heterogeneous nucleating agent on the carbides in special steel. It helps the readers to understand the formation mechanism and control technology of carbide in special steel deeply for improving the quality of special steel further. Jing Li, born in 1967 and received his Ph.D. in ferrous metallurgy in 1999, is now a professor at State Key Laboratory of Advanced Metallurgy, University of Science and Technology Beijing. He serves as Secretary General of the Electrometallurgy Association, the Chinese Society for Metals. His research fields include electroslag remelting technology, advanced metallic materials development, secondary refining, application of rare earth in steel and oxide metallurgy, and BOF/EAF steelmaking. He participated in the formulation of a national standard for the metallurgical industry. He was awarded the First Metallurgical Advanced Youth Science and Technology Award, 11 provincial and ministerial level of scientific and technological progress awards, authorized 14 patents, and published 2 monographs and more than 200 publications in peer-review research journals.

Chengbin Shi was born in 1982 and obtained his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in January 2013. He is now an associate professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. His research interests focus on electroslag remelting, clean steel, and non-metallic inclusions in steel and alloy. He serves as a board member for 3 international journals “Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B,” “International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials,” and “Journal of Iron and Steel Research International,” and a committee member of The Electrometallurgy Association, The Chinese Society for Metals. He was awarded 3 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. He has authorized 5 patents and published more than 60 papers in peer-review research journals.
