Caxton Classic paperback is very clean, square along the edges with minor bump to upper corners, and tightly bound. Interior appears unused and v bright. Title page states "Illustrated by L.D. Cram" however, rear cover states the illustrator is Jerome D. Nenninger. Cram may have done only the frontispiece of original edition (reproduced again in this volume), while this Caxton Classic includes Nenninger's art.

About the Author

Thousands of readers, young and old, are acquainted with Rutherford G. Montgomery's narratives of the strong men and wild animals that live in the Western mountain country. He has published over eight short stories and serials in various magazines, and many books in addition to CARCAJOU.

Montgomery spent his boyhood on ranches in North Dakota and Montana. At college he studied law, history, and English; and when the World War broke out he enlisted as a machine gunner in the United States Army Air Corps, spent a year and a half in the service.
