About this Item

THOMAS, John P. Career and Character of General Micah Jenkins, C.S.A. Columbia, SC: The State Co., 1903. 1st ed. 28 pp. Portrait frontis. Orig. printed wrappers. Some rust stains from staples, else a near fine copy in custom cloth folder with leather spine label. One of 100 copies. Jenkins, a brigadier-general, participated in a number of battles in the eastern theater and accompanied Longstreet to Tennessee. The first part of this work is a compilation of tributes to Jenkins, who was killed during the Wilderness Campaign. Among those praising him are Generals Longstreet and Lee, with Lee even stating that "the result would have been different" had Jenkins been at Gettysburg. The second part centers on Jenkins' own correspondence and accounts concerning the battles in which he fought. Dornbusch II, 2865. Turnbull IV, p. 465. Bookseller Inventory # 52194
