Careless Machines

When was the last decision that was truly yours?

Artificial intelligence has become the most persuasive technology ever created—not because it is always right, but because it is almost always helpful.

Every day, millions of people ask AI what to write, what to believe, what to build, what to buy, what to say, and even how to make life's hardest decisions. The answers are fluent, confident, and remarkably convincing.

But what if the greatest danger isn't that AI makes mistakes?

What if it quietly stops you from noticing your own?

Drawing from doctoral research, behavioral science, psychology, philosophy, organizational leadership, and hundreds of real-world cases spanning technology, government, healthcare, finance, law, education, and history, Careless Machines introduces a new framework for understanding one of the defining risks of the AI era:

Situational Disempowerment—the gradual transfer of human judgment from people to machines.

Rather than arguing that AI is making people "stupid," this book presents a far more nuanced—and more unsettling—argument:

The greatest threat isn't artificial intelligence.

It's the gradual surrender of your own judgment.

Inside you'll discover:

• The Three Thefts quietly eroding human decision-making

• The Four Amplifiers that determine who is most vulnerable to AI influence

• Why intelligent people are often the easiest to persuade

• The hidden mechanism of Belief Offloading—and how it changes the way we think

• Twenty-four practical rules for preserving judgment while embracing AI

• Practical experiments to strengthen critical thinking without rejecting technological progress

This is not a book about fearing AI.

It is a book about using AI without allowing it to replace the one thing that makes your decisions truly yours.

Whether you're a founder, executive, software developer, policymaker, educator, student, consultant, or simply someone navigating an increasingly AI-powered world, Careless Machines provides a practical framework for thinking more clearly, deciding more wisely, and remaining intellectually sovereign in an age where machines have become astonishingly good at agreeing with us.

Because the future will not belong to those who reject artificial intelligence.

Nor to those who unquestioningly embrace it.

It will belong to those who know where to draw the line.
