A bright copy of Scottish novelist Compton Mackenzie's novel, first published in 1912.In the publisher's original dust wrapper, price unclipped.In Mackenzie's novel, a ballet dancer falls in love with an aristocrat, but refuses to become his mistress and instead marries a Cornish farmer with ultimately tragic consequences. It was a commercial and critical success on its release, and saw three film adaptations between 1916 and 1946. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with mark to front board. Otherwise, externally bright. Discolouration to dust wrapper, with chipping to back strip head, and closed tear to back strip head and tail. Small closed tears to head and tail of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound.
